Virginia Rounding

Virginia Rounding studied Russian Language and Literature at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University of London, and then worked in a variety of administrative posts whilst simultaneously pursuing her writing career. Organisations she has worked for include the Consort of Musicke, the Tavistock Institute, Websters Multimedia and the Priory Church of St Bartholomew the Great. Her first full-length work, Grandes Horizontales: the lives and legends of four nineteenth-century courtesans, was published by Bloomsbury in 2003 to much critical acclaim. She has also translated from French and Russian, particularly the work of the poet Arseny Tarkovsky, and has co-authored with Martin Dudley Churchwardens: A Survival Guide (SPCK, 2003). She is currently working on a major new biography of Catherine the Great for Hutchinson and the St Martin's Press.
