| Maura Murphy Maura Murphy was born in rural Ireland "chronically ugly and cross as a briar" in 1929. She left school at 14 and worked in service until she married. She and her family of nine children left Ireland for Birmingham in the 1950's, where she lived until her death in 2005. |
