Roopa Farooki

Roopa Farooki was born in Lahore, Pakistan, brought up in London and read PPE at New College, Oxford. After a brief interlude as a graduate trainee at Arthur Andersen, she moved into the field of advertising, working first at Saatchi & Saatchi, and then at J Walter Thompson. She worked on the international advertising campaigns of several well-known brands, including Andrex, Rolex, Shell and Veet, before turning to full time writing in 2004. Roopa's first novel, Bitter Sweets, was published by Pan Macmillan in 2007, and was nominated for the Orange Award for New Writers. Bitter Sweets has since been published by St Martin's Press in the US, and in several countries across Europe. Roopa's second novel, Corner Shop, was published by Pan Macmillan in October 2008, and has also been published internationally. Her third novel, The Way Things Look To Me was published in September 2009, and was one of The Times Top 50 Paperbacks of 2009, and longlisted for the Orange Prize 2010. Her fourth novel, Half Life, was published in April 2010. Roopa is married, with two young sons and twin baby girls; she currently divides her time between SE England and South-West France.
