Vicky Halls

Vicky started working with cats in 1988, originally supervising a rescue cattery and progressing to veterinary practice with a qualification in nursing. As a result of her enquiring mind she wasn’t content with fixing the cats physically. Vicky became interested in feline psychology at a time when it was emerging as a valid element of veterinary science. Some years later she found herself working full-time as a “cat shrink”; she still admits she never intended to expose herself so completely to the idiosyncrasies of 21st century cat owners. Vicky travels all over the UK visiting her patients and, despite being there to resolve the cats’ problems, often finds herself having to confront the owners’ emotional dilemmas too. It didn’t take her long to discover that the two things are intrinsically linked and she’s been trying to make sense of the human/cat relationship ever since! Vicky understandably has a passion for cats but she insists she isn’t fluffy about them and would rather they were allowed to behave naturally than treated like children. Vicky also has great compassion for the owners but she wishes they wouldn’t open their Pandora’s boxes quite so readily. Vicky says “When you are on all fours dealing with a cat that pees on the carpet there are some things about the owner that you really don’t need to know”. When Vicky is not seeing her problem patients she is tending to the emotional needs of four cats of her own. She is the author of CAT CONFIDENTIAL, CAT DETECTIVE and CAT COUNSELLOR, all published by Transworld. She is a member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors and a registered Veterinary Nurse. For more information visit www.vickyhalls.net
